The Spinifex Difference
Please prepare yourself for our hard sell, as hard as it gets anyway. We don’t have any sales people on the Spinifex team, preferring designers and engineers; but since you are on our website you probably want to know what differentiates Spinifex Fans from other ceiling fan companies. Here’s the pitch…
THE HALLMARKS OF A SPINIFEX FAN ARE:
- Contemporary design with personality
- Elegant proportions
- Excellent performance both in terms of energy efficiency and air movement
- Beautifully integrated lighting solutions
- Quiet operation
- Factory balancing
- Quality construction and attention to detail
- Friendly and efficient before and after sale service and support
CONTEMPORARY DESIGN
You appreciate great designs when they appear as buildings, furniture and cars, so too with ceiling fans. Anyone can move air but can they do it elegantly and efficiently?
Ron Rezek, the designer of our Modern Fan Co. range of ceiling fans, is the pioneer of contemporary ceiling fans. In 1986 Rezek designed the Stratos fan, which was the first ceiling fan to incorporate modern design aesthetics and was a revolutionary step away from the large bodied tropical and Victorian period designs that had dominated fan design since the electric ceiling fan was first patented by Philip Diehl in 1887. Since the development of the Stratos, Rezek has continued to define contemporary ceiling fan design with his sophisticated and timeless originality.
ELEGANT PROPORTIONS
The proportional balance between a fan’s body and blades is critical to creating an elegant design. By designing a smaller fan housing we are able to reduce the visual encroachment of a fan into a given space, a minimalist contemporary European styling popular in Australia.
EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE
By using high quality motors and materials, and applying our knowledge of aerodynamic principles, Spinifex fans are amongst the best air movers on the Australian market per watt of electricity. The Spinifex range of ceiling fans is between 20% and 44% more efficient than the CSIRO benchmark for an efficient fan.
LIGHTING SOLUTIONS
Lights on ceiling fans should NOT be an afterthought. A good design integrates a great lighting solution into a ceiling fan so that it is a complement to the fan. Aspects of a good light are:
- A form consistent with the body of the fan
- No hot spots on the glass when illuminated
- High quality dual layer acid etched glass

QUIET OPERATION
Producing a perfectly quiet fan is impossible because moving air and electric motors generate some noise; however there is a great deal we have done to suppress noise from our ceiling fans. Spinifex minimises electrical and mechanical noise by using high quality bearings and motors. To minimise the noise from air turbulence we employ an expert in fluid dynamics, a tamed yacht designer, who understands how to minimise the turbulence off the tips and trailing edges of the blades.
Note: Be especially careful when assessing fan noise in a store. Even the slightest ambient noise can mask the fan noise that will drive you crazy on a hot summer night when you’re trying to sleep.
FACTORY BALANCING
There are two main causes of fan wobble: i) an unbalanced rotor and ii) unbalanced or warped blades. Spinifex factory balance all our rotors and blades to within 1 gram. Plus we use injection moulded or engineered wood blades which are resistant to warping.
QUALITY CONSTRUCTION & ATTENTION TO DETAIL
Spinifex cares about the little things that differentiate good from great. We employ market leading engineering, materials selection and manufacturing processes. Take for example our remote; it is the smallest and simplest remote on the market, an exercise that took us through three electronics manufacturers before finding a partner capable of meeting our exacting standards. Spinifex and its partners apply this ‘close enough is NOT good enough’ approach to all of our products.
SERVICE AND SUPPORT
We encourage you to ring or email us to discuss your ceiling fan needs. As ceiling fan specialists focused on quality we are always pleased to work with architects, designers and home owners to integrate ceiling fans into your designs. Unfortunately about half of all ceiling fans are retrofitted into buildings resulting in a lot of expensive rework caused by fan location problems due to the structure of the ceiling, incompatibility with lighting plans, stroboscopic effects from lights, and wiring accessibility problems.
Additionally if you have any problems with our products we are keen to work with you to resolve them with a minimum of fuss. The Spinifex brand represents quality and innovation and is backed by our 5 year product warranty. We want your experience of us and our products to be the best it can.
